Nell Hamilton

The Founder of our NGO, Sustainable East Africa (SEA), is Nell Hamilton, who has lived and worked in Zanzibar since 2010. Before setting up SEA, Nell worked for Chumbe Island Coral Park [link] as the Community Outreach Project Coordinator, and it was here that she saw the amazing potential and need for sustainability support.

She studied Marine Biology and Zoology at Bangor University in North Wales, UK, and followed that with a research masters in Tropical Marine Ecology from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada (2005-2009).

She is a Rotarian, and member of the Rotary Club, Zanzibar. They’ve supported many of the local NGOs Nell is so passionate about. Just now she’s writing about sustainable ways to spend your time with the Flora and Fauna of Zanzibar!

Nell loves diving and everything about the ocean; she can often be spotted paddling about or walking her 2 dogs, Sheila and Popo, in the mangrove forests near her home on the coast of Zanzibar.

Ecologue is Nell’s blog, about all things eco, and personal thoughts and reflections that inform her life and work.
